The Greatest Gift

Linda and I have been friends since the 7th grade. We weren't real close friends during school but have become closer over the years. Her dad died from cancer when we were in highschool and her mom died a year after my dad, that's when we really became friends.I think I called her up when I heard of her moms death and we've been talking several times a week ever since . Well, until I started school. Not having time to talk to linda while I drink my coffee in the morning is something I miss very much.

She takes me out to lunch every year around Christmas to celebrate my birthday and it is one of my favorite days of the year. We usually go shopping after and I love it.

This year I got an extra special gift. Linda was once in nursing school and her mom bought her a special nurse Christmas ornament, but she never finished school. She has hung the ornament on her tree anyway, all these years (about 20). Well, she gave that nurse ornament to me for my birthday, saying "I didn't finish school but you will and my mom would want you to have it." So here we are, bawling in the middle of Olive Garden. I was so overwhelmed by the gesture, I just didn't know what to say. It is one of my most treasured belongings from one of my most treasured friends. Thank you Linda, for everything.
